Ship Class: Norwegian Breakaway is a Breakaway-class ship, the first of the class, followed a year later by sister ship Norwegian Getaway. She entered service in 2013 and was the largest cruise ship ever homeported in New York City at the time.

Maiden Voyage: Norwegian Breakaway set sail for the first time on April 30, 2013, a transatlantic crossing from Southampton to New York City, where her naming ceremony took place.

Capacity: Norwegian Breakaway carries approximately 3,963 guests at double occupancy across 1,604 staterooms and 350 suites, including Haven suites with private sundecks and butler service.

Features and Amenities: Following a 2025 refurbishment, Norwegian Breakaway added Silver Screen Bistro (a first-of-its-kind dinner-and-movie experience at sea), Horizon Park (an outdoor recreation deck with live entertainment), and The Stadium for family-friendly outdoor games. Longtime highlights include The Waterfront promenade, the Aqua Park with Free Fall waterslides, a multi-level ropes course with a plank extending over the ship’s edge, and Mandara Spa.

Itineraries: From Port Canaveral, Norwegian Breakaway is expected to offer 4- and 5-night Bahamas and Caribbean cruises, with stops including Great Stirrup Cay, Puerto Plata, and Cozumel, similar to sister ship Norwegian Getaway’s short-cruise program.

Entertainment: Onboard entertainment includes the ballroom dance show Burn the Floor, dueling pianos at Howl at the Moon, the rock storytelling show Syd Norman’s Presents: Rumours, and stand-up at Headliners Comedy Club.

Dining: Complimentary dining includes three main dining rooms (Taste, Savor, and The Manhattan Room), the Garden Café buffet, and O’Sheehan’s Bar & Grill. Specialty venues include Cagney’s Steakhouse, Le Bistro for French cuisine, Onda by Scarpetta for Italian, Teppanyaki for hibachi-style dining, and Palomar, Norwegian’s Mediterranean seafood restaurant.
